It depends mainly on the lawn and how the property is used. A low-water Mediterranean garden with gravel, aromatic plants and mature trees holds up well with a monthly visit, or fortnightly in spring. A garden with a lawn needs weekly attention from April to October, because mowing and irrigation adjustments cannot wait in the heat. For holiday rental villas the calendar follows occupancy: the garden is prepared before each arrival, not after.
The ones that were here before gardens existed: olive, carob, mastic, rosemary, lavender, oleander and bougainvillea. These species are adapted to limestone soil with poor water retention, to several months without rain and to the salinity of plots near the sea. The most common mistake on the island is choosing from a catalogue rather than for adaptation: a poorly chosen planting does not die in year one, it dies in the third dry summer and at considerably greater cost.
Between November and February. This is not an aesthetic preference: the red palm weevil is more active in warm weather, and fresh cuts release a scent that attracts adults looking for somewhere to lay eggs. Pruning in midsummer effectively invites the pest in. We use the same window to inspect the crown, which is where an infestation can still be spotted while it remains reversible.
Basic monthly maintenance for a small villa garden starts from around 150 €/month, while large gardens with palms, lawn and automatic irrigation typically fall between 300 and 800 €/month. Price is driven by visit frequency, the presence of lawn and the number of palm trees. We publish indicative ranges for all services, and the fixed quote follows the site visit, which is free.
Yes, on annual contracts with a fixed price per financial year, which is what allows hotel management or a property administrator to budget the line item in advance. For hotels the plan is organised by season phases, with major works concentrated in the winter closure. For associations we provide a monthly report of works carried out, so the administrator can justify the expenditure to the owners' meeting.
